Director Sudha Kongara planned to make Captain Gr Gopinath’s biopic as her second film. But, since her first film Drohi turned out to be a flop. She didn’t dare to approach the legend for his story rights. She wanted to prove herself and made a bilingual Irudhi Suttru / Saala Khadoos with Madhavan playing the lead.
The Tamil and Hindi versions were hits. Sudha Kongara remade the film in Telugu as Guru with Venkatesh in the lead. The film was a much bigger hit here. The director had then approached Captain Gr Gopinath who agreed to give rights of his story.
Sudha Kongara worked really hard for the film Aakasam Nee Haddura (Soorai Pottru) which is witnessed while watching the Suriya starrer streaming on Amazon Prime. The film received unanimous positive response from all the corners. In the meanwhile, Captain Gr Gopinath who watched the film is all praises for hero Suriya, director Sudha Kongara, heroine Aparna Balamurali and other team. Here are series of tweets posted by Captain Gr Gopinath.
“Sorarai potru ..Heavily fictionalised but outstanding in capturing the true essence of the story of my book. A real roller coaster. Yes watched it last night. Couldn’t help laughing and crying on many family scenes that brought memories.
Dramatised but true to the undying spirit of triumph of hope against struggles and tribulations of an entrepreneur with disadvantaged rural background over overwhelming odds.
The portrayal of my wife Bhargavi by Aparna was very well etched out , of a woman who had her own mind , strong but soft , feisty and fearless and an inspiration to rural women especially who are equal and can be entrepreneurs in their own right.
And Suriya was powerful and carried off the part of an entrepreneur obsessed to the point of madness that makes dreams come true. A timely and great uplifting story in these times of gloom
And kudos and big salute to Director Sudha , to have balanced very deftly a male centric story lead by Suriya by portraying a wife acted by Aparna who was a powerful counter balance in an inspiring and heartwarming way.”
