Senior Actress Sita Passes Away

Senior actress Sita, second wife of legendary actor Nagabhushanam, passed away in Hyderabad on Monday and her final rites have been performed at the Vaikunta Mahaprasthanam. Sita is known for her supporting roles in the golden era of Telugu cinema. She’s 87 and had been suffering from age-related. Several personalities from the Telugu film fraternity have expressed grief and offered their condolences for her death.

Sita played a pivotal role in the popular stage play ‘Raktha Kanneeru’ which brought name, fame and accolades to Nagabhushanam. Along with Vemavarapu Gowtham Kumar, the theatre artist gave more than 3000 performances all through the Telugu states.

Hailing from Kakinada, Sita got introduced to Telugu cinema as a child artist in 1940 and played a small part in the all-time classic ‘Yogi Vemana’. After impressing bigwigs like KV Reddy with her solid acting chops, she went on to essay comical roles in path-breaking films like Mayabazar, Gunasundari Katha, Pelli Nati Pramanalu and others.

In an illustrious career spanning for over six decades, Sita acted in over 250 films and continued her interest in the theatre.
