The deadly corona pandemic turned everything topsy-turvy and film industry got affected in a never seen before manner. Among all the industries and professions, the Film Industry was hard hit with theatres closed for more than five months, postponement of new film releases indefinitely and cancellation of shootings.
Even though the unlock process started, the Union Government did not permit theatres across the country to reopen. In the midst of all this, producer, Film Chamber of Commerce Joint Secretary Natti Kumar made a sensational allegation. He said, “Due to the lobbying of the few in the film industry, theatres are still closed. Due to this, thieves stole the furniture in a theatre in Pithapuram and in some areas; seats got spoiled due to mice. Who is responsible for this?”
He continued questioning, “Authorities are running trains and airplanes without changing the seating capacity. Why did the Government change the rules when it comes to theatres? If theatres are not opened citing the name of corona pandemic, in future protests will start across the states demanding opening of theatres.
Hundreds of crores of workers got affected due to the closure of theatres. Due to OTTs small films are suffering losses. How right it is to release top stars films on OTTs citing theatres closure. One should realize that heroes got crores of market due to theatres”.
