Currently, Otts are experiencing huge demand due to the closure of theatres and the subsequent lockdown. Movie lovers who used to go to theatres for entertainment found Otts as the alternate source of entertainment.
According to the changing trend and the confusion over the release of theatres, small filmmakers decided to release their films on Ott platforms. Already couple of Telugu films and few Kollywood films released on Otts and many Bollywood films are waiting in the wings.
In the midst of all this, Otts are experiencing new scares. The films which got released on Otts got pirated. Otts are experiencing piracy attacks and it has to be seen how Otts secure their platforms from piracy attacks.
This is because despite the stringent rules, the filmmakers and theatre managements are unable to curb piracy. Even though cyber laws couldn't crush piracy attacks. With Otts increasing their subscription charges and much charging pay per view for new films, any person will wait for pirated versions so that they can download and watch the films for free.
Analysts say though this may not impact small films, if the makers of high budget films try to release their films on Ott and the films get pirated, then they will face huge losses.
