While entire world is suffering due to coronavirus outbreak and the lockdown, OTT platforms are earning enormously. Subscribers are increasing and share value is growing swiftly for most of the OTT players like Amazon Prime Video and Netflix. Especially, Amazon which is acquiring majority of films and is economical compared to Netflix, is unstoppable.

In order to capitalize on the current situation, the OTT players are luring producers with fancy offers. The amount they are offering is far high to the deal price of particular hero’s previous film. Then, what is stopping Tollywood going OTT way.

Tollywood is one of the biggest industries in India. For last few years, Telugu star films are doing bigger business compared to Bollywood films. In fact, theatrical business is the major revenue source for Telugu films. Even the double the price from digital platforms is not enough to recover full investment.

Moreover, Telugu stars are not habituated to OTT platforms. According to them, direct OTT release will defame their stardom. And the digital players are asking stars to promote their films as per their norms. These demands are also irking few stars who were initially ready for OTT release.

On the other hand, for debutante stars, it’s their dream to watch themselves on big screens. OTT release will stop their films hitting the theaters.

Coming to star heroes’ films, it’s never a question of direct OTT release given the stars as well as their fans won’t approve the same.

So, all these factors are stopping Tollywood from choosing direct OTT release!
