Megastar Chiranjeevi, Sridevi's yesteryear classic Jagadeka Veerudu Athiloka Sundari turned out to be a blockbuster creating a collection tsunami at that time. Ashwini Dutt produced the film on his Vyjayanti Movies banner under the direction of K Raghavendra Rao.

The makers planned to release the film on May 9, 1990, but cyclone warning was given on May 6. They were at the wit's end as to how to send the prints and trains came to a standstill. Even then the makers went ahead with the release date. Flood water entered into the protector room in few theatres.

Ashwini Dutt felt that the film may turn out to be a disaster and the cost of the promotion would come to nothing. He along with Raghavendra Rao went to Vijayawada and later visited a theatre in Guntur. Both class and mass viewers were enjoying the film whistling and dancing.

During that time Ntr who was the opposition leader was on a tour to take stock of the flood-affected areas. He happened to meet Ashwini Dutt and Raghavendra Rao. Seeing them, Ntr said, "Film report is good. You will settle. Don't worry. I am telling you". At the same time, a banana vendor who came on cycle shouted 'ippude cinema chusanu. adiripoyindi. samvatsaram aadutundi'. Ashwini Dutt and Raghavendra Rao heaved a sigh of relief on hearing it.
