Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced an extension of lockdown till May 3rd. Stressing the significance of the next one week in the fight against Coronavirus, he appealed to all the countrymen to stop the spread of the Covid-19 disease to newer areas.
Modi said that certain relaxations can be given in those areas that have shown promise in fighting the disease. An assessment will be done for the next one week of all the blocks, districts and states based on which the relaxations can be given.
Meanwhile, many wonder, why the lockdown extension is for 19 days. Earlier, it was predicted that, the lockdown extension will be for two to three weeks. However, Modi announced 19 days.
The reason being May 1st is national holiday (Labour Day- May Day) and May 2nd and 3rd are weekend. If the lockdown is lifted for April 30, there’s chance of people gathering huge numbers in these three days.
So, considering all these factors, Modi announced extension till May 3rd.
