Only limited screens were allotted to Karthi’s Khaidi (Kaithi in Tamil) in all the south languages, as the film released along with the biggie Vijay’s Whistle (Bigil in Tamil). Due to low key release and all the focus was on Whistle, Khaidi garnered decent numbers on day one.
With the positive word of mouth and unanimous optimistic reviews from critics, Khaidi picked up slowly from day two. The film from day fourth started dominating Whistle. While the Lokesh Kanagaraj directorial collected 33 lakhs share in Telugu states on its eighth day, the Atlee directorial amassed Rs 26 lakhs.
Khaidi has already entered profit zone, Whistle too is expected to reach the breakeven mark very soon. While Khaidi which was made on low budget has grossed Rs 50 Cr, Whistle has grossed over 150 Cr.
While Telugu movie buffs rejected many other language films in recent times, both Khaidi and Whistle could rake in good collections here.
