Samantha and Nandini Reddy recently scored a hit with Oh Baby, remake of Korean film Miss Granny. Even as they are basking under the glory of Oh Baby, they got a huge shock from the High Court.
It is known that in 2013, Samantha and Nandini Reddy came with Jabardasth movie. The film is a remake of 2010 Bollywood hit Band Baja Barat starring Ranveer Singh and Anushka Sharma.
Yash Raj Films lodged a complaint against Samantha and Nandini Reddy alleging that they copied their content without acquiring the remake rights of their film. After six years fight, Delhi High Court, gave ruling in favor of Yash Raj Films.
Justice Manmohan said, "In the present case, this court is of the view that the defendants have blatantly copied the fundamental, essential and distinctive features as well as forms and expression of the plaintiff's film on purpose and consequently, have infringed the plaintiff's copyright in the film Band Baja Baaraat."
Jabardasth makers argued that the court did not have the jurisdiction to deal with the case as the movie was written and directed in Hyderabad. However Judge said, "This court is also of the opinion that the defendants have no real prospect of defending the claim as their defense had been struck off and they have not denied the documents of the plaintiff. In fact, the evidence of the plaintiff has gone unrebutted."
