Kabir Singh Vs Article 15: Critics Vs Audience

Arjun Reddy is a path-breaking film in Tollywood and the Sandeep Vanga directorial made its male lead Vijay Devarakonda an overnight star. The film is remade in Hindi as Kabir Singh with Shahid Kapoor and Kiara Advani playing lead roles. The original version director Sandeep helmed the remake version as well.

Bollywood critics who always disregard talented south actors and filmmakers had slammed Kabir Singh. While very few are hailing Kapoor's brilliant portrayal of a self-destructive Kabir, others are upset with the character's toxic masculinity. Sandeep received flak from critics, especially from feminists.

But, the audience have received Kabir Singh with love. The film is expected to cross the Rs 250-crore mark soon at the box office, having earned almost Rs 246 crore already. It is indeed all time 10th biggest grosser and is biggest hit in Hindi in 2019.

On the other hand, Article 15 which released just after a week after the release of Kabir Singh received unanimous positive talk. The Ayushman Khurana starrer film in its two weeks run collected nearly 50 Cr Nett amount which is less than one fourth of what Kabir Singh collected in its two weeks run.

Critics who slammed Kabir Singh have called Article 15 a master piece. Yes, Article 15 is a good film with potential content. But, the film’s collections are not up to the mark.

Note: At the end of the day for any film, box office collections matter. While Article 15 wins hearts of critics, Kabir Singh receives the love of audience.
