Entire Bollywood is talking about the sensation Shahid Kapoor and Kiara Advani's Kabir Singh is creating at the box office. While some are blasting the film's negative content, others are thrilled with the macho performance of Shahid Kapoor.
Ever since the launch of Kabir Singh, remake of Tollywood hit Arjun Reddy featuring Vijay Devarakonda, Shalini Pandey, many wondered whether Shahid Kapoor can pull off the role. People feared comparisons may hurt the film.
But Sandeep Reddy Vanga who directed the original, ensured that the remake too carried the same intensity and Shahid is getting rave reviews for his performance. Still many feel, even experienced cannot come anywhere near the intensity shown by Vijay Devarakonda in the original.
In the midst of all this, people are wondering whether Kabir Singh is a terrible remake of Arjun Reddy. Shahid Kapoor in order to recreate the magic of Arjun Reddy repeated Vijay Devarakonda's performance and in fact he lost his originality and copy pasted Vijay Devarakonda's mannerisms.
Many felt that though scripts and dialogues can be repeated, emotions cannot be recreated. Shahid failed to come with powerful emotions akin to Vijay Devarakonda or his earlier film Udta Punjab for all his hard work.
Sandeep Reddy himself too came with an inferior version of Arjun Reddy with Kabir Singh. Though original script too had some problems, it had some intense emotions that connected chords with the movie lovers despite the sexist, misogynist portrayal of the hero. Sandeep however turned the character of Kabir Singh to a complete disaster.
In Arjun Reddy there was a scene where Vijay Devarakonda is seen calling out his friend's brother-in-law for objectifying air hostesses. But in the very next scene, he makes fun of heroine's friend for her physique. Sandeep Reddy for some reason deleted this scene from Kabir Singh. He even included scenes like Shahid forcing a woman to take off her pants at knifepoint, Sandeep took away the very few instances when Kabir Singh is sober and not forcing himself on women.
He showed Arjun Reddy as a guy drinking gallons of alcohol and consuming cocaine. He failed to show Kabir Singh in the same depth as Arjun Reddy. In Arjun Reddy, Sandeep showed that though the lead actor gets a lot of female attention post his break-up, what with women thronging to his residence to feed him, he does not get physically involved with them. The heartbroken Arjun is either telling them his story or listening to their stories.
Sandeep got emboldened in the remake and showed Kabir Singh as an arrogant, abusive, ill-mannered surgeon who gets away with bad behavior wherever he goes. Sandeep doesn't give him a chance to show emotions other than anger and remorse, unlike what he did with Arjun Reddy.
Wonder why Sandeep Reddy made these changes in Kabir Singh. Had he assume that for Bollywood movie lovers, he should show Shahid Kapoor in Kabir Singh in a more macho and as a male chauvinist than Vijay Devarakonda in Arjun Reddy?
