Supreme hero Sai Dharam Tej and Natural Star Nani who were minimum guaranteed heroes once had hoped their respective summer outings; Chitralahari and Jersey will become biggest hits in their career. Both took some gap, before signing these films and they even went for makeovers to play losers. They dedicated good time for perfection in output and promoted the films vigorously.
Directed by Kishore Tirumala, Chitralahari received mixed response. However, fortunately for SDT, Chitralahari had done decent business in its first week. The film could able to recover investment, but it is not the kind of hit SDT forecasted.
On the flip side, Gowtham Tinnanuri directed Jersey got extreme positive response from all the corners. Surprisingly, the film was not up to the mark at box office. It couldn’t break day one record of Nani’s previous film Devdas. Although the film performed quite remarkably in urban centers, it had done below par business in rural areas, owing to tough competition from Raghava Lawrence’s Kanchana 3. Jersey collections slowed down in urban areas as well from second week, after the arrival of Avengers: Endgame.
Nani who expected Jersey to become a memorable movie in his career is in utter shock now with the way it is performing at box office. Though the film recovered the investment, it is not the kind of hit Nani anticipated.
So, both Nani and SDT are now focusing on their next venture, as they didn’t score blockbusters with their respective ambitious projects.
