Natural Star Nani is getting ready to thrill with a sports based thriller Jersey. The film is releasing even in Japan and under these circumstances speculation is on whether Nani can succeed where Rajamouli failed. Jersey features Nani as a 36 year old cricketer who works hard to gain entry into the Indian cricket team and Shraddha Srinath as his wife under the direction of Gowtham Tinnanuri. The film is slated for a grand release on April 19.
Since Nani has a craze among family viewers, producers are confident about good openings. Since the movie has a cricket backdrop, people who have knowledge and love for cricket will get connected. Earlier Sumanth’s Golkonda High School, failed to connect chords with movie lovers despite having good content. People got connected to only few scenes.
Earlier Tollywood stars though starred in few scenes with cricket backdrop, none starred in a film with cricket as a main theme. The makers already made it clear that the film has a father son sentiment. This shows that the film has very few commercial elements which appeal to masses. Anirudh Ravichander’s music and BGM is just ok and not extraordinary.
The makers are planning to explore Japanese market. Indian films especially Secret Super Star and Hindi Medium performed well in China though they did ordinary business in India. Amir Khan created a sensation with his Dangal. Still Indian filmmakers are not concentrating on exploring Chinese market.
Rajamouli planned to tap it with Baahubali, releasing both parts there. However the film failed to make even its presence felt leaving without a trace. Under these circumstances, many filmmakers are avoiding Chinese market. However Jersey makers are planning to target Chinese market as well.
One has to wait and watch whether Jersey will open the floodgates for Telugu films as Chinese get connected to emotional films rather than high voltage action entertainers.
