Kollywood director AL Vijay's biopic on former Tamil Nadu CM Puratchi Thalaivi Jayalalithaa titled Thalaivi is generating tremendous interest ever since makers roped in Bollywood Queen Kangana Ranaut to play the lead role. It is known that Vijayendra Prasad is penning a powerful script for the biopic.
Kangana herself went on record that though her personality is completely different from Jayalalithaa, she signed the project owing to Jaya's popularity and achievements. In the meantime startling news is coming out that Kangana was not the first choice by the makers.
They planned to rope in Vidya Balan, who recently starred in NTR biopic opposite Balakrishna as NTR's wife Basavatarakam. A source reveals Vidya however couldn't sign the project as she already signed the dotted line to be part of a webseries on former PM Indira Gandhi based on Sagarika Ghose’s book, Indira: India’s Most Powerful Prime Minister.
The source shares, "Vidya did not take it up because she felt she would do injustice to it, as around the same time, she had planned to work on her ambitious Indira Gandhi web series which she wants to make since nearly a year now."
