Tollywood filmmakers and stars always follow one or the other genre if one film on that particular subject turns out to be a hit. After Mahanati, almost all Tollywood filmmakers started announcing biopics on various film personalities. But that took the back seat now after the shocks of NTR Kathanayakudu and Yatra.
Now it seems stars are readying for sports sensation on screen. Sports centric films are nothing new to Tollywood. Earlier Pawan Kalyan and Raviteja attracted everyone as boxers in Thammudu and Amma Nanna O Tamil Ammayi. In Okkadu and Bheemili Kabaddi Jattu, Mahesh Babu and Nani turned Kabaddi players. In Vasantham, Venkatesh turned cricketer, while in Sye, Nitin played Rugby. In Arjun Reddy and in Padi Padi Leche Manasu, Vijay Devarakonda and Sharwanand attracted for few minutes as football players.
However all these are not full length sports based entertainers. Sumanth and Venkatesh attracted with full length entertainers Golkonda High School and Guru. Now stars like Nani, Varun Tej, Naga Chaitanya, Sundeep Kishan and Rashmika Mandanna will be seen as sports persons in their upcoming entertainers.
Varun Tej is turning a boxer in his next under newcomer Kiran Korrapati's direction. Varun is training in boxing in US. Sundeep Kishan is starring in a sports flick in Santosh Jagarlamudi direction. Sources say the player coach relation will be the highlight in the film.
Sudheer Babu is already planning to come up with a biopic on badminton star and coach Pullela Gopichand. Ram Charan, Akhil and others too are showing interest in sports based films. Though Ram Charan sometime back gave green signal to a sports film, it did not go to sets.
Nani is set to show his cricket talent in Jersey. Already the film's teaser is generating tremendous interest. In Majili, Naga Chaitanya too is turning cricketer. Rashmika too is turning cricketer in Dear Comrade romancing Vijay Devarakonda.
Rana is planning to star in the biopic of popular wrestler Kodi Ramamurthy. Inside talk is Karthikeya who scored a hit with RX 100 is turning boxer in Hippie. Mahesh Babu will be seen as a cricketer for few minutes in his upcoming entertainer Maharshi.
