India's highest civilian award Bharat Ratna will be conferred for three iconic personalities of divergent fields. According to a press communique from Rashtrapathi Bhavan on Friday night on the eve of Republic day, Former president of India Pranab Mukherji will be honoured with Bharat Ratna award. 

Pranab Mukherjee served as India's president between 2013 and 2017. Pranab, who was born on 11 December 1935, stepped into the shoes of politics in 1969. He rendered his services as minister of defence, finance and external affairs under various governments of the Congress party. Pranab has good relations with all the political parties. Truly, he deserves to be the Bharat Ratna.

On the other hand, social activist Nanaji Deshmukh and music legend Bhupen Hazarika will be conferred with Bharat Ratna posthumously. 

Nanaji worked in the fields of education, health and rural health reliance and received Padma Vibhushan in 1999. He breathed his last in 2010. 

Bhupen was a renowned musician, singer and lyricist. He passed away on 5 November 2011. He was conferred India's second highest civilian award Padma Vibhushan postumously in 2012 and now he will be honoured with Bharat Ratna. 

Entire nation is proud of three great personalities winning India's highest civilian award.
