Super Star Rajinikanth was no less than any Telugu star hero and his films had done far better business than straight Telugu films in many occasions. But, his craze in Telugu land is not same today. He lost sheen with the kind of films he has done in recent times. Post Robo, none of his films shined at box office, including his last movie 2.0, which is ending as commercial flops owing to huge investment.
Rajinikanth is coming up for this Sankranthi with his film Peta (Petta in Telugu) which is all set for release in Tamil as well as Telugu on January 10th. Though Petta has grand release in Tamil Nadu, it is not getting many theaters in Telugu states with three big ventures hitting the screens for Sankranthi. Balakrishna’s NTR Kathanayakudu, Ram Charan’s Vinaya Vidheya Rama and Venkatesh, Varun Tej’s F2- Fun And Frustration are in Sankranthi race.
Ashok Vallabhaneni bought Peta Telugu rights for decent price, compared to the price for 2.0. However, he is unable to seize even decent number of theaters. More importantly, he is releasing the film on own in few centers as he is unable to find buyers. In fact, nobody is willing to take the risk when big ticket films are in the Sankranthi race.
Trade analysts opine that, Peta will not survive even if it receives positive talk after its release. They are showing 2.0 as example to show Rajinikanth’s current fame. Despite getting positive talk, 2.0 botched to recover investment, that when there was no competition. Let’s see whethere these statistics will be upturned!
