NTR starrer Yamagola which turned out to be a blockbuster in 1977 is one of the classics in Telugu cinema. DV Narasaraju's dialogues entertained movie lovers a lot. Produced by S Venkataratnam under the Sree Pallavi Films banner and directed by Tatineni Rama Rao, the film starred Jaya Prada playing other lead role, with music composed by Chakravarthy.
While penning script, Narasaraju got an idea. He felt that if Balakrishna who attracted as Abhimanyudu in NTR's blockbuster Dana Veera Soora Karna is cast as Yama, then NTR, Balakrishna combo will create wonders at the box office.
He then shared his idea with producer and popular cinematographer Venkataratnam and told him to put the proposal before NTR. Though NTR gave nod for the story, he rejected the plan to cast Balakrishna as Yama.
NTR said, “Currently I am confining Balakrishna only to own production keeping his studies in mind. I am not thinking of casting him in outside films”. Had NTR agreed, one would have got to see a sensational multi starrer.
