Tollywood stars seem to be smitten by multilingual films. None of them are now showing interest in completing their film in Telugu and then getting them dubbed in other languages. So, producers too despite the huge pressures involved are getting ready for multi linguals, hoping that they can sell their rights in various languages.
However not many are thinking practically about how successful their plans will work out. Super Star Mahesh Babu's Spyder, a multi lingual failed utterly at BO. It is known that shooting each scene twice increases the cost of filmmaking and finally the producers will not have any profits. Now Vijay Devarakonda's NOTA too turned out to be a bilingual.
Prabhas Saaho with Sujeeth and his next with Radhakrishna Kumar are trilingauls. Frankly speaking Telugu heroes are not having market in other languages. Only Allu Arjun is strong in Kerala and none are caring our stars in Tamil Nadu. Baahubali turned out to be a blockbuster due to its grand visuals and not due to craze of Prabhas. Earlier Chiranjeevi and Nagarjuna's blockbusters used to get dubbed in Tamil but later even the makers stopped dubbing them.
So it is better to play a safe game sticking to their stronghold. Though Rajamouli did many 100crs project, he did original version in Telugu and later dubbed them into various other languages. This is the right method for success. Kannada hero Ravichandran in 1988 did a trilingual in Kannada, Tamil and Telugu titled Santhi Kranti. The film featured Rajinikanth, Nagarjuna and Ravichandran in Tamil, Telugu and Kannada respectively. It took many decades for him to recover from the huge losses. Taking the film in one language without any risk will not have the huge burden of suffering from the powerful impact of the flops.
Allu Arjun too is getting scared to do a straight film in Malayalam. He stopped his multi lingual project with Lingusamy even after its announcement. Rajinikanth too is ensuring his films get dubbed rather than go for two versions despite his huge market in Telugu. It is still not clear why only Tollywood stars are smitten by muliti lingual craze.
