Malayalee model Priya Prakash Varrier attained overnight stardom with her wink act in the song “Manikya Malaraya Poovi” in her debut film Oru Aadar Love. Though many loved her wink act, few didn’t appreciate it and approached Supreme Court against her claiming that Wink is blasphemous.

The Supreme Court reacting to the FIR lodged by Muqeeth Khan in Hyderabad, alleging that the wink in the song, offended the feelings of Muslims as it was a version of a traditional Muslim song from Malabar region of Kerala in circulation since 1978, said that a wink could never be blasphemous for Islam or any religion and quashed the FIR.

Supreme Court bench comprising of CJI Dipak Misra and Justices AM Khanwilkar and DY Chandrachud directed that no FIR or complaint should be entertained against the actor, the film director and the producer because of the picturisation of the song.
