Bollywood actor Salman Khan was found guilty by Jodhpur court is sentenced to 5 years jail term in connection with the blackbuck poaching case. Saif Ali Khan, Sonali Bendre, Tabu and Neelam who were also accused in the case were acquitted.
Salman Khan and other actors were accused of poaching blackbucks in 1998 during the shoot of Bollywood film Hum Saath Saath Hain. The ‘Bajrangi Bhaijaan’ star was charged in two separate cases, one for poaching and the other for offences under the Arms Act. Hunting blackbucks which are among the endangered animals listed in the Wild Life Protection Act 1972 is a criminal offence and is punishable by a fine and/or imprisonment.
Salman was earlier booked under the Arms Act in 2006 as the license of the gun he allegedly used while hunting had expired. However, the charges were later dropped due to lack of evidence, after the actor spent a week in jail.
