The Karnataka state government, as usually, plans to celebrate 18th century Muslim ruler Tipu Sultan's birth anniversary celebrations on November 10. Tipu Sultan was considered to be one of the great rulers of India who also provided grants for the development of Hindu temples then.

"The BJP led union government, however, strategically, is trying to create rifts between two religions", say some analysts. India's pride and one of the seven wonders of the world Taj Mahal was unnecessarily dragged into controversy by some BJP leaders. Likewise, they have been slinging mud against Tipu Sultan for two years. They cooked up the stories that Tipu Sultan damaged Hindu temples. Moreover, they released a fake photograph of Tipu which they claimed he had taken it in 1826. However, opposition parties ridiculed the party disclosing the details that Tipu was died in 1799 as per records.

And today, addressing the Karnataka assembly, President Ramnadh Kovind showered praises on Tipu Sultan. “Tipu Sultan died a heroic death fighting the British. He was also a pioneer in the development and use of Mysore rockets in warfare. The technology was later adopted by Europeans", says the president.

The president's praises on Tipu came as a shocker to local BJP leaders and are now turning on defensive mode. On the other hand, Mr Kovind's gesture is appreciated by everyone and all. They have felt the president is not something like a robot for the BJP.
