Director Shankar Leads GST Fight

Though GST (Goods and Service Tax) has been launched with much publicity, there is a sense of unrest prevailing among many industries and sectors of which one is the film industry.

Among regional cinema, it is Kollywood (Tamil Industry) that has started protesting the implementation of GST.

With the launch of GST, the tax on Tamil industry has gone up to 48-58% which will be a burden for makers and movie lovers.

Director Shankar has taken to twitter and posted – 48-58%..too much tax..save Tamil cinema.

Theatres across Tamil Nadu are closed from today to protest against huge tax burden.

Telugu states have temporarily put a stop on the tax hike for movie industry and will act accordingly based on the repercussions from other movie Iindustries.
