According to a satire, the ruling party's heads at centre summon CBI officials on every morning and give the names of people who are to be raided. Accordingly, the the orders are obeyed by the CBI.
And today, CBI raided the residences of NDTV founders Prannoy Roy and Radhika Roy in New Delhi and Dehradun. The CBI has registered a case against Roy and his wife for causing losses to the tune of Rs 48 crore to ICICI Bank.
However, the detractors of the BJP are coming up with some cooked up stories. They cited either of the three or all the three of the following are the reasons for CBI's raids on the media personnel.
Firstly NDTV was about to expose a Rs.20,000 crores NH 78 scam of Modi government and that's why to divert the topic, CBI's raids on the channel's heads was brought into the picture. Secondly, Maggi noodles were banned before Patanjali Noodles were allowed to be given permission. Similarly, it's cooked up that Baba Ramdev may takeover NDTV post these raids. And lastly, this is a gesture of the government to all media houses who go against the government.
However, following the raids NDTV issued a statement which reads, "This morning, the CBI stepped up the concerted harassment of NDTV and its promoters based on the same old endless false accusations.
NDTV and its promoters will fight tirelessly against this witch-hunt by multiple agencies. We will not succumb to these attempts to blatantly undermine democracy and free speech in India. We have one message to those who are trying to destroy the institutions of India and everything it stands for: we will fight for our country and overcome these forces."
