How Sad Dipa Karmakar!

Dipa Karmakar happens to be first Indian artistic gymnast to compete in Olympics representing India at 2016 Summer Olympics and attained 4th position in women vault gymnastics event. As a token of respect, Sachin Tendulkar gifted her with a BMW car in September along with PV Sindhu and Sakshi Malik.

However, it is shocking to hear that Dipa decided to return the gift back to Sachin because she is unable to bear the maintenance cost. In this regard, she spoke to the gift’s original owner V Chamundeswaranath.

Dipa and her family members are living in Agartala, a city which hasn’t got any well maintained roads where BMW isn’t a favorable car to drive. With narrow roads, a posh car like BMW is a total misfit. With Challengers Cup coming up in Germany is just a month away, Dipa is finding it difficult to devote her time and money on BMW. ‘This is a collective decision taken by her entire family,’ said her coach Bisheswar Nandi. 

It was also heard that Agartala hasn’t got any BMW service centre. That’s the sad state of affairs in India. There is a Hindi saying… Charana Murghi Ko Baarana Masala (75 paisa Masala for 25 Paisa Chicken).
