Everyone is aware of world's biggest sporting event Olympics. PV Sindhu and Sakhi Malik, who won silver and bronze medals in the Olympics, have greatly been honoured by the Indian government. They were felicitated with huge prize money and with other benefits in respective states where they belong to.
Unfortunately, there is another event, which is on par with the status of Olympics is hardly recognized by the people of India and respective state and central governments. And the event is the Paralympic Games, which is a major international multi-sport event involving athletes with a range of disabilities.
Mariyappan Thangavelu, whose leg was crashed by a bus when his age was 5 years, has won the gold medal in Paralympics at the age of 21. He deserves the recognition and honour on par with PV Sindhu by the governments of respective states and union government of India.
Young Rebel Star Prabhas tweeted, "#MariyappanThangavelu ,ur win is an inspirational story for everyone.Hats off to you on your gold medal #Paralympics." Tamil Superstar Rajinikanth also showered praises on Thangavelu.
