The Filmfare Awards are presented annually by Times Group and this awards ceremony is one of the oldest award ceremonies of India. The awards were first introduced in 1954 and have been continued uninterrupted for 61 long years. The 62nd awards ceremony for South was held a day before and this glittering event was attended by a galaxy of stars of South.

On the other hand, Nandi awards ceremony of Andhra Pradesh was introduced in the year 1964. Since they were the awards conferred by the government itself, they had been considered highly prestigious till a couple of years ago. However, gradually the charisma and interest on these awards have eroded and thanks for the intervention of politics and recommendations in announcing the awards to the undeserved actors and technicians. Appointment of jury members was also criticized many times by the critics. However, the government has never paid interest on the criticisms made by the movie analysts. The government has stopped giving away the awards for the past three years. In lieu of this,  critics are advising the government to stop giving away the awards permanently.
