Tamil Nadu’s Kalanithi Maran owned and promoted Sun Tv Network consisting of 50 odd radio channels (on brands of Suryan FM, Red FM) and 33 TV channels might go off the air as Union Home Ministry denied license clearances leading to a possible cancellation of all broadcasting.
The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) and The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MIB) are on the same stand of denial of security clearances. A letter is received on this subject suggesting minister Arun Jaitley for cancellation of broadcasting licenses of Sun Network channels. Maran has to approach the legal procedures and make courts to intervene.
Sun Network, India’s largest media house with a reach of more than 95 million households in India has applied for ten year renewal of security clearances in last year. Three criminal cases in pending against Sun Tv owner Kalanithi Maran viz. Aircel-Maxis case, an Enforcement Directorate money laundering and a CBI case of illegal telephone exchange run from Sun Tv's office are the possible reasons quoted for barring the license. Sun Group officials are yet to comment on the same.
