Viswanata Chakravarthi Sv Rangarao, popularly known as SVR was one of the legendary character artists of India, who made his mark strongly in tollywood as a character actor and as a villain. His method acting separated him from other actors of those days, who used to show dramatic performance in movies pumping in over dosage of emotions. SVR received best actor award at Jakartha film festival for his reverberating performance as Keechaka in 'Narthanashala'. He got erstwhile Rashtrapathi Award for five times in Telugu and Tamil films put together. Even though he was such an outstanding performer, the Government of India has not honoured him with Padma Award. However, his fans feel he is bigger than any other awards conferred by the Government. Fortunately, people of this generation, have understood his excellence in acting and are currently erecting his statues in all major cities of AP in key centers.
Kaikala Satyanarayana is considered to be the true successor of SVR. He has been popular with his character actor roles, villain and comic roles in movies. He is one of the most senior character artists of tollywood at present. Having made his debut with 'Sipayi Koothuru'( 1959), he continued acting for more than five decades. He was recently seen in 'Jagadguru Adishankara'( 2013). He was the recipient of Raghupathi Venkaiah Award by the AP government in 2011. Wonder what this senior most actor has not got Padma award till now.
It's not just because of the seniority of above actors, but the way they ruled tollywood as number one character artists in respective generations, there is a need the governments to honour them with Padma Awards. Else, the statuses of the awards might be eroded.
