Ram Gopal Varma’s  penchant for violence and dark shades of life has come in and grew up from his early stages, it seems and this reflects in the films he makes and the way he makes them different, diffident, daring and devastating even.

“As a school kid, I was fascinated by the bullies in my class. Then, this fascination graduated to the street rowdies and later to gangsters,” he told in an interview.

The dominance of power and underworld, care-you-not attitude must be the colourful motifs of his early day fascinations which shaped into character starting from Shiva to Sarkar Raj, Department and counting.

Speaking on the dark shades, he says: “Dark is real. I’m attracted to human psychology. Anything out of the ordinary attracts me. Ordinary people and NRI romances bore me.”
