Director Sudha Kongara, known for her critically acclaimed film "Soorarai Pottru" (Aakasham Ne Haddu Ra), is gearing up for her second collaboration with actor Suriya in the upcoming film "Purananooru." The film, which marks Suriya's 43rd venture, promises to be a powerful and thought-provoking exploration of the anti-Hindi imposition movement that took place in South India during the 1960s.

In a recent interview, Kongara revealed key details about the film's narrative and its themes: "It's an anti-system story, which is something I'm drawn to. 'Purananooru' is set against the backdrop of the anti-Hindi imposition movement in the 1960s. It's an anti-oppression film. I believe all my films tackle the issue of oppression in some way."

Kongara further explained the film's core message: "The story features a female boxer who breaks down barriers and achieves success. For years, women have faced patriarchy. We must acknowledge it and overcome it. Every form of separation, oppression, and division exists. We need to confront them head-on rather than dwelling on them."

The star-studded cast of "Purananooru" includes Dulquer Salmaan, Nazriya, and Vijay Varma. The production will be helmed by Suriya's 2D Entertainment on a grand scale, with music composed by the renowned GV Prakash Kumar.

The film is expected to generate significant interest, as it delves into a pivotal moment in South Indian history while highlighting themes of empowerment and resilience. With Kongara's visionary direction and Suriya's captivating presence, "Purananooru" promises to be a compelling and impactful cinematic experience.
