Ajay Devgn starrer sports drama based on real incidents in Indian football, 'Maidaan' is finally releasing for Eid, April 10 this year. After much delays the film is finally hitting theatres. It is being bankrolled by Boney Kapoor. Right after 'Mahanati', Keerthy Suresh was seen with Ajay Devgn and Boney Kapoor. She was the initial choice for the role of Ajay Devgn's wife in the film.
But, by the time the film has went on floors, Priyamani joined the cast replacing Keerthy Suresh. Many wondered what might be the reason. While it was believed that Keerthy exited from the project owing to "age issues", director Amit Ravindranath Sharma revealed the actual reason behind her exit from the film.
The film's director said he had imagined a certain look for Rahim's wife but Keerthy had lost a lot of weight and he had to pick Priyamani as she was the right pick for the role. Maidaan starring Ajay Devgn and Priyamani as the lead pair, also has Rudranil Ghosh and Gajraj Rao in pivotal roles.
The film is a biopic sports drama based on the life of Syed Abdul Rahim, the Indian football team coach from 1952 to 1962. Cinematographers Tushar Kanti Ray and Fyodor Lyass (sports portions), editor Dev Rao Jadhav and Shahnawaz Mosani (sports portions), and music director AR Rahman.
