Telugu Desam Party president N Chandrababu Naidu on Wednesday demanded an investigation by the Central Bureau of Investigation into allegations of irregularities into the Commonwealth Games in New Delhi.
Mr Naidu said that the image of the country has been damaged due to the alleged financial irregularities and sub-standard works in the construction of stadiums.
Talking to media persons at the NTR Trust Bhavan, the TDP president urged the Centre to deal with allegations of irregularities ‘strongly’ and ensure that no corruption is involved as the country’s image was at stake since it is organising the event.
He asked the government to organize the games without compromising on quality of infrastructure and facilities in stadiums as the prestige of the country lay in hosting 19th games successfully.
The TDP chief sought the Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh’s intervention to complete the probe in a transparent manner and to complete the construction works before October 3, the inaugural day of the Games.
