A lot of debate was triggered in the Congress circles over MP Lagadapati Rajagopal’s frank thinking that all candidates who quit for Telangana would win in the Tuesday's by-elections.
Some Congress leaders from Telangana welcomed the opinion of the Congress MP from Vijayawada. Past surveys conduced by Rajagopal yielded almost accurate results, so the Congress circles are seriously discussing the next move.
The survey was conducted by RG Flash team from Eluru. The survey, however, could not be conducted in Nizamabad urban segment. Here it was a prestigious issue for PCC chief D Srinivas who contested the byelections.
Telangana sentiment was there among the voters and all the three major parties, the Congress, the Telugu Desam and the Telangana Rashtra Samiti have gone to the voters on the promise that they would fetch them a separate Telangana.
However, the voters have the full confidence that ruling Congress is the only party that can achieve separate Telangana. The Telangana sentiment is there in the Telangana region but it is not uniform in all the places. At certain places it is high and in certain places it does not exist. The people wanted to re-elect those who resigned for the sake of Telangana so all those who have resigned are likely to win the by-elections, Lagadipold told reporters.
Referring to TRS chief KCR’s statement that if separate Telangana is not declared by Dec 31 then there will be bloodshed in the State, he said. People always love peace and like to live in peaceful atmosphere. All those leaders who threaten bloodshed will not survive for long in politics, he noted.
