Ysr Govt is only trying to appease World Bank, says Raghavulu.   “Only to meet the World Bank guidelines, the Congress Government in the State is giving legality for the Jalayagnam programme and the land reforms,” Mr B V Raghavulu, secretary of the state committee of the CPM told media persons here on Thursday.  The land reforms implemented by the previous governments are proving to be a stumbling block for the incumbent Congress Government in the State to meet the World Bank guidelines and thus the Rajasekhara Reddy Administration is enacting new laws on the issue and is resorting to take away fertile land from the farmers in the name of cooperative farming, he alleged.

Huge tracts of agricultural land and other land holdings that are under the government will now be given away for multi-national companies (MNCs) and big business houses at throw away prices and the latest move to bring in new reforms are only aimed at this, Mr Raghavulu felt. “In the name of surplus land, the State Government is preparing ground to allocate fertile agricultural land to the big business houses and for the Congress men,” he remarked.

About the completion of 100 days in office of the Rajasekhara Reddy Government, the CPM leader said that the ruling party has subjected the people of the State for 100 untold miseries. “Steep rise in prices of essential commodities, particularly of rise and dal, and the unscheduled power cuts for long durations in the capital city of Hyderabad itself besides several other problems only speak volumes about the Government’s performance,” he observed.
