Two women were killed and another was injured when Chief Minister K Rosaiah’s convoy hit them at Murthyrakshananagar in Bapatla in the district on Tuesday.

According to sources, the driver of a police jeep in the convoy, which was heading for Bapatla where the Chief Minister was scheduled to attend a programme, lost control over the vehicle which hit the women, all farm labourers. The women were crossing the road at Murthyrakshananagar, killing two women on the spot. One woman, who sustained serious injuries, has been shifted to the hospital.

In the incident, Circle Inspector Vijaya Bhaskar and two constables were also injured after the driver applied sudden brakes. All the injured have been shifted to the Government General Hospital in Bapatla. The condition of the injured is stated to be out of danger.

Rash and negligent driving is attributed to the cause of the accident.Meanwhile, angered by the road mishap, local farm labourers staged an impromptu rasta roko on the highway for nearly three hours and demanded compensation for the victims’ families.
