Chiru to meet Polavaram oustees on June 7

Praja Rajyam party (PRP) leader K Chiranjeevi, who set off on a fortnight-long bus yatra on May 5 last seeking national status for Polavaram project, will attend a meeting of the project oustees on June 7 at Polavaram and hear their grievances.

According to PRP sources, Chiranjeevi is expected to discuss the problems of the project oustees at the meeting and find ways and means of redressing them.

Thousands of farmers face the threat of their villages in East and West Godavari districts getting submerged once the Polavaram Irrigation Project comes up.

Chiranjeevi will try to instill confidence among the evacuees, who are in a fix over the future of their children, lands, cattle and other immovable properties, which will go under water due to the project. The PRP supremo is expected to prevail upon the villagers to understand the the benefits of the project.

The party sources said Chiranjeevi will leave for New Delhi on June 12 to draw the attention of Central leaders towards the villagers' problems and seeks compensation for them.He would also mount pressure on the Central leadership to complete the project early.
