As the House took up debate on the prevailing drought situation, the Opposition parties demanded the government what concrete measures it has taken to tackle the drought. They also questioned why the government is delaying in announcing the list of drought hit areas in the state. “It is not correct to link the bankers committee meeting with the prevailing drought situation in the state,” they said.

Making a statement in the House on prevailing drought, the Chief Minister, Dr Y S Rajasekhara Reddy, said that the government would announce the list of drought hit areas after conducting a meeting with bankers. The government would review the situation in the bankers meeting and announce the drought hit areas by Monday. The announcement of the list was delayed only to facilitate that farmers get loans early.

Not satisfied with the Chief Minister’s reply, all opposition members walked out from the assembly. The Praja Rajyam members for the first time joined with the other parties and staged walkout from the assembly. After the Chief Minister’s speech on drought, the Deputy Speaker Nadendla Manohar adjourned the House for Monday.
