Andhra Pradesh Congress president D Srinivas was in a for another setback on Saturday when the Congress High Command decided against nominating him for the Rajya Sabha.
D.Srinivas had a similar disappointment in April last when he was denied nomination to an MLC seat from Rangareddy district.
After the PCC chief was defeated in the last general elections to the State Assembly, he was running short of luck everywhere. Once again, the hopes of D. Srinivas took a nosedive when the High Command bypassed him in the nominations to the Rajya Sabha.
The four persons who have been nominated to the Rayja Sabha from the Andhra Pradesh Congress are V. Hanumantha Rao, Renuka Choudhary, JD Seelam and Jairam Ramesh.
Of the four, the surprise choice was that of Renuka Choudhary, the vociferous woman leader from Khammam. The nomination of Renuka may surprise many but it seemed to be a strategy adopted by the High Command to encourage the anti-Jagan group in the state.
Praja Rajyam president Chranjeevi will be meeting Congress president Sonia Gandhi in New Delhi on Saturday to broach the possibility of sharing or extending support to PRP for Rajya Sabha seat.
The meeting between Sonia and Chairajeevi internally assumes significance in the light of the latest political developments in the state.
It is being apprehended that Kadapa MP YS Jaganmohan Reddy who disregarded the party High command’s orders and took the Odarpu Yatra may split the party. So, as an alternative, the Congress is planning to rope in PRP and continue the Government headed by Rosaiah in Andhra Pradesh.
