Konda Surekha attacked, swallows sleeping pills

Protesting against Telangana activists disrupting Kadapa MP Y S Jaganmohan Reddy’s Odarpu Yatra (tour to console families) in Mahabubabad, former minister Konda Surekha and an ardent suporter of YSR on Friday attempted to end her life.

According to sources, Konda Surekha attempted to end her life by swallowing sleeping pills while trying to narrate her harrowing experience with mediapersons over the way the Telangana activists attacked her.

When the gunmen of Surekha and her husband Murali tried to push them away from the troubled spot, the protesters rained stones at the temporary shelter where they were waiting for the Jagan's rally to arrive. In their bid to protect their leaders, the gunmen opened fire in the air.

While the gunmen were taking the couple to the office of the DSP, Surekha suddenly swallowed sleeping pills. However, the activists intervened and shifted her to the local area hospital.

Konda Surekha said she would end her life before the Telangana activists who have been threatening to resort to suicides for the cause of Telangana.

On the advice of doctors, the activists shifted Surekha to the Government General Hospital in Khammam.

According to doctors, Surekha’s condition is out of danger. Meanwhile, the Telangana activists in Mahabubabad, torched the vehicle of MLC Konda Murali, a staunch supporter of Odarpu Yatra.

The activists also attacked Konda Surekha’s house at Hanmakonda and Mahabubabad MLA Kavitha with stones. Kavitha sustained injuries in the incident.
