In view of the four deaths caused due to the strike by junior doctors at MGM Hospital here on Tuesdy, the Government has agreed, in principle, to release Rs 35 lakh as the first instalment towards the payment of revised stipend for the junior doctors. A second instalment of Rs 25 lakh is expected to be released by Tuesday evening.
With the junior doctors boycotting the emergency wards and the regular wards, the paramedical staff were also pressed into service to take care of the patients.
In view of the deteriorating health-care situation, District Joint Collector swung into action and acted as a mediator between the striking junior doctors and the Government. Responding positively to the mediation efforts of the joint collector, the Government released Rs 35 lakh as the first instalment towards the payment of revised stipends to the junior doctors. The second installment of Rs 25 lakh is expected by evening.
Meanwhile, Health Minister Danam Nagender in Hyderabad condemned the strike by junior doctors, which caused inconvenience to the patients. He appealed to the junior doctors to call off the strike as the Government is looking into the demands of the striking junior doctors.
