Telugu Desam party on Monday made a plea for making the temple town a liquor-free zone as nearly 60,000 pilgrims visit daily to have a darshan of Lord Venkateswara.
Addressing mediamen, TDP district leaders Neelam Balaji and Sridevi urged the government to scrap the liquor tender process in the temple town this financial year onwards to make the city a liquor-free zone. The leaders also demanded a ban on meat shops in and around the temple town.
They warned the party of an agitation in the temple town if the government did not cancel the tender process.
