In a straight contest in Ranga Reddy district, Telugu Desam Party candidate M Narender Reddy won the seat by 48 votes.  Narender Reddy polled 342 votes against his Congress rival Kasani Gyaneswar, who got 294 votes. Eight votes were rejected out of 644 votes polled in the May 7 elections. Both the candidates invested heavily in organizing separate camps for the voters.

Even  during the counting, there was a lot of tension as clashes flared up between the representatives of Telugu Desam and Congress over a petty issue. However, the police intervened and brought the situation under control.

The TDP circles expressed happiness over Narendeer Reddy’s election as the contest was fought on even terms in a tense situation.

MS Prabhakar who got elected from Hyderabad is the son of former minister Shyam Rao, a close aide of State Health Minister Danam Nagender.

Syed Amin Jafri of Majlis Ittehadul Muslimeen (MIM), the second victorious candidate, is a senior journalist who regularly writes for Arab News. On being asked by mediapersons after his election, Jafri said he would work for the Twin Cities development.
