The Praja Rajyam Party plans to mount pressure on the Centre to accord national  status for Polavaram irrigation project, stated party supremo K Chiranjeevi.

After the launch of an 11-day Polavaram bus yatra at Antarvedi in East Godavari district on Wednesday, Chiranjeevi said the yatra was aimed at educating the people on the importance of Polavaram project.

"The project is the lifeline of Andhra Pradesh. Much of the Godavari water is going waste into the sea. If the water is used properly, it would help raise a second crop in West and East Godavari districts," he claimed.

As the project would submerge lands on the Telangana and Andhra regions, Chiranjeevi said the project victims should be given lands elsewhere, he suggested.
