With Rajya Sabha elections round the corner, hectic political lobbying is on among the political circles in the state. By June this year, six Rajya Sabha members from the state will complete their terms.
Of the six seats, Congress will have four seats while Telugu Desam two depending on their present strength in the State Assembly.
For the Congress, three members have already assured themselves of a RS ticket with only one remaining for open contest among the Congress aspirants. N Janardhan Reddy is all set to get a second term. So is the case with D Seelam. Sanghi who Is presently looking after the Bihar elections, in all probability, may be retained for another term.
Earlier, it was felt that the Congress would allot a Rajya Sabha seat to Praja Rajyam Party, in a bid to gain its support in the forthcoming local body polls. However, with the likelihood of PRP integrating itself with the Congress, the ruling party may not entertain the idea of presenting another seat to PRP.
It is likely that either PCC president D Srinivas or some senior Congress leader may get the nod for a seat. For the Telugu Desam, it is almost certain that Sudeesh Rambhatla’s name has been okayed for the RS election. Tdp chief Nara Chandrababu Naidu, in a bid to woo the Brahmin community, has chosen Sudeesh Ramhbhatla for the RS, according to sources.
The other seat has not yet been finalised in Tdp as yet. Many former Tdp leaders, at present, with Praja Rajyam, are trying to get back to the Tdp with the fond of hope of securing a RS seat.It remains to be seen as to who will get the nod from the Tdp supremo for the second seat.
