Governor moots upgrading of Govt hospitals

Governor Esl Narasimhan called upon the Government to give top priority to children’s  education in the state. Inaugurating  a pediatric cardiac unit at Care Hospital here on Saturday, he advised the government to cut down spending on unnecessary sectors and allocate more funds for children’s education.

Education has become a fundamental right of every child in the age group of six to 14 years through the 86th amendment by inserting a clause in the Constitution in 2002. Parliament passed the law last year.

Narasimhan said this has become mandatory after the enactment of Right to Education Act by the Centre.

 Referring to the pediatric cardiac unit, he  said very few cities in the country have this provision and we are privileged to have  such  a unit  here.

The Governor noted  that hundreds  of children are born each year with congenital heart disease in India. Many of them die undiagnosed. While some are diagnosed, others are allowed to die due to lack of medical facilities nearby or inability to afford medical treatment. Yet others reach the appropriate hospital but at a stage too late to intervene. A very few receive appropriate medical care at the right stage.

So the government, in a bid, to save the lives of children with heart diseases should  make  every effort  to  equip  the  government  hospitals with the latest medical equipments on par with the corporate hospitals.
