Much to the delight of Telugu Desam Party president Nara Chandrababu Naidu, hundreds of TDP supporters turned up in large numbers to express their solidarity with their leader in making the `Maha dharna’ a big success.
Staging a sit-in at the Prakasam barrage, the TDP chief highlighted the Government's failure to protect the rights of the state over the surplus Krishna water.
Focusing on the Government’s failure to project the state's point of view properly before the Krishna Water Disputes Tribunal headed by Brijesh Kumar, former chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu said the projects built by the upper riparian states of Maharashtra and Karnataka were against the principles. The construction of projects by both these states on the river Krishna is depriving the Andhra farmers of the much-needed water for their crop.
Reaching the 'Maha Dharna' venue by road from Hyderabad, Naidu addressed a large gathering of farmers from nearby districts of Guntur, East and West Godavari and Krishna who turned up for the `Maha dharna’.
``We intend to take these issues to the people by staging dharnas and educating the people on the failure of the Government in these areas,’’ the TDP president said.
