The City of Destiny is tipped to have a Central University. Putting at rest all doubts that the university is being shifted out of the City, Minister of State for Human Resource Development D Purandareswari assured the people that the University will be set up in Vizag by all means.

The proposed Central University will be set up in over 700 acre of land being acquired by the Government near Sabbavaram. The  country will have 14 such universities in the next couple of years.

''The method of teaching, examination, research, appointment of professors and e-learning courses have not  yet been finalised for this university, the Minister said. The University will be on par with the foreign universities so as to withstand the competition from abroad, '’ Purandareswari added.

Referring to the airport, she said the city's airport is now offering service only for 12 hours a day and will soon extend its services 24 hours. ''To this effect, we took up the issue with Defence Minister AK Anthony,'' she noted.

The airport will soon be developed into an international airport. Indian Navy, which controls the airport, had not given night-landing permission to commercial flights. The issue was taken up to the Defence Minister, and she hoped things will get a clearance soon. The move is expected to improve connectivity to the fast-growing industrial city and tourism hub.

The night-landing facility is expected to increase the number of passengers by another 200,000 per annum, as at least six airlines were ready to operate flights during night, according to airport sources.
