Tension prevailed at the Lakdi-ka-pul on Saturday after the Police arrested a few students of Postgraduate College, Saifabad, who were marching towards the State Assembly.

The students, who apparently were responding to the 'Chalo Assembly' call of JAC of Osmania University, argued with the Police that they were going peacefully towards the Assembly. However, the Police termed the students' march as ‘illegal’ as it violated the prohibitory orders imposed in the city.

Sensing further trouble, the Police arrested the marchers. The cops also took about 100 students into custody for proceeding towards the Assembly by disrupting traffic at Ramanthapur.

In contravention of the prohibitory orders, several students who began a rally at Arts College on Osmania University campus were stopped by the Police at Vidyanagar.

The Nizam College students had a heated argument with the Police as they closed the gates of the college and hostel to prevent the students from coming out. A similar situation prevailed at the City College in the Old City where students were prevented from taking out a rally by the Police.
