Mrs Y S Vijaya Lakshmi, Vijayamma for her well-wishers, and widow of former chief minister, Dr Y S Rajasekhara Reddy, on Thursday took oath as the member of the Andhra Pradesh State Legislative Assembly.
At a simple function, Mrs Vijaya Lakshmi, was administered the oath by the Speaker, Mr N Kiran Kumar Reddy, in his chambers. Accompanied by Mr Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy, her son and Kadapa MP, she arrived at the Speaker’s chambers at 11.25 am when she was received by the Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president, Mr D Srinivas, and the advisor to the State Government and MP, Dr K V P Ramachandra Rao. The former ministers, Mr Konatala Ramakrishna and Mrs Konda Surekha were also present at the ceremony.
Mrs Vijaya Lakshmi was unanimously elected to the Assembly from Pulivendula segment in Kadapa district after her husband, the most popular Congress leader and former chief minister Rajasekhara Reddy’s untimely death in a copter crash in Nallamala forests on September 2 last year. The Pulivendula segment was represented in the Assembly by the late Dr Reddy for four consecutive terms before he died in the copter crash.
As Mrs Vijaya Lakshmi was being administered the oath by the Speaker, she was unable to control her tears. She almost broke down in the presence of the senior Congress leaders and her son, Mr Jagan Mohan Reddy, who was seen consoling her.
